Sudan is the world's largest producer and exporter of dried hibiscus calyces, accounting for an estimated 60–70% of global trade volume. Hibiscus sabdariffa (locally called Karkade) is grown primarily in North and South Kordofan and West Darfur, where the dry sandy soils and distinct wet/dry seasons produce the deep red, high-anthocyanin calyces that command premium prices in export markets. This product is NOT a spice and NOT a fresh food. It is a botanical ingredient traded at industrial scale by food manufacturers, beverage companies, natural food colouring producers, cosmetics formulators, and nutraceutical brands. The primary value drivers are: (1) colour intensity — measured by anthocyanin content and ICUMSA-equivalent colour value; (2) tartaric acid content, which determines sourness and functional performance in beverages; and (3) moisture and foreign matter, which determine storage life and processing yield. Sudanese Karkade is supplied in two primary forms: Whole Calyces (Grade A: fully dried, minimum stems, maximum colour), and Cut & Sifted (C/S) for industrial processing lines. A spray-dried water extract powder (hibiscus extract 10:1 concentrate) is available for nutraceutical and functional food applications — enquire separately. Key markets: European beverage manufacturers (hibiscus tea, infused water), US functional beverage brands, Middle Eastern food companies (traditional Karkade drinks), and cosmetics/personal care formulators seeking natural red colourants.

Different markets require different packaging. We work with buyers to select the right format for their destination and end customer.
PP woven outer, food-grade PE inner liner (moisture and odour barrier). Heat-sealed. Bags sewn and labelled. Pallet: wooden, fumigated (ISPM 15). Do not store near strongly scented products — hibiscus calyces absorb odours.
Preferred for herbal tea blenders, nutraceutical manufacturers, and specialty buyers handling multiple botanicals. Smaller unit size reduces waste on partially consumed lots.
For hibiscus milled powder only. Double inner PE bag heat-sealed inside corrugated carton. Pallet stretch-wrapped. Requires cool, dry, dark storage — powder grade is hygroscopic.
Custom sizing and print available from 1 × 40ft FCL. Confirmed at PO stage.
